Isaiah 39 & Malachi

Malachi 4:1 ¶ For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

Isaiah 39:6 Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.

These two verses tie Isaiah 39 and Malachi together.

Israel's past is their future coming back to haunt them.

The 70 years of desolation predicted in Isaiah 39:6 is followed by the rising of the Roman empire which is followed by the Seven years of Tribulation coming after the rapture of the Church.

Malachi 4:1 is pointing to the coming of the new heaven and new earth after the 1000 year reign of Christ when this earth as we know it will be purified by fire and no traces of Satan, sin and those who chose to follow Satan deceit will remain. It is a time of regeneration. The 70 years of desolation during the captivity in Babylon was the offer of regeneration to all of Israel (both kingdoms). Israel had the opportunity of start over with a clean slate by believing The Word Of The LORD, The Holy One Of Israel.

Malachi 2:1-3 - The corrupted seed of the priests cannot begin life - with Isaiah 39:6-7 corrupted seed of Hezekiah - the descendents of him being made eunuchs unable to reproduce.

Isaiah told Hezekiah of the desolation facing Judah in his future at the hands of Babylon - Malachi saw the coming desolation for 400 years between his writing and the birth of Christ and the taking away by Rome.

Dung of their solemn feasts - and the wealth in Hezekiah's storehouses.

Malachi 1:7-9 speaks of the polluted bread, the blind, lame and sick offered in sacrifice to The LORD making their feasts, their worship and their seeking forgiveness worthless or dung and  the benefit of their sacrificing to God of no benefit in the future . All the treasures given to Hezekiah by The LORD should have been to His glory not Hezekiah's making them worthless and not something that could be relied upon in the future.  Amos 5:22 - Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts. See Jeremiah 14:10-12

Both Isaiah 39 and Malachi lead to the loss of the vision - God's word being withdrawn from His people which leads to a time of desolation.

The physical points to the spiritual -

The treasures Israel received from God on earth were pictures of the treasures they should have laid up in Heaven through belief and obedience through proper worship and service.

The physical carrying away shows the spiritual carrying away of Judah and Israel by Satan the roaring lion seeking to devour God's people through polluted worship. That has been Satan plan from the start plant the seed of unbelief and the plant of disobedience will grow.

Isaiah 39 is about Hezekiah through robbing God of the glory due his name by claiming the treasures as his own thus making, to them, the rest through prosperity and peace from their enemies making grace given by God, grace offered in vain.

Does Hezekiah giving  the son of the king of Babylon the grand tour of his kingdom remind you of an lesson -  How about the lesson on Hamburger. When the corrupted outside is mixed whit the clean inside both become corrupted and it must be exposed to fire and heat to make it safe to eat. (see top Malachi 4:1)

Malachi is really about how Israel through disbelief and polluted service and worship rejected The LORD's offer to cover them with His Spirit so He could look at them them through The Holy Spirit and see them as a holy people - Making His grace , grace offered in vain. Remember Isaiah 30:1

Isaiah 39 and Malachi define Israel's history - Peace and prosperity given by the grace of God being removed by God because of Israel's claiming  the glory for themselves and robbing God of the glory due His name. Their history always went from it's all about HIM, HIM, HIM to it's all about me, us and we.
