Chapter 21 Part 2 - The burden of Dumah

Chapter 21 (verses 1-10) begins with - The burden of the desert of the sea - The fall of Babylon
The second section of Chapter 21 is The burden of Dumah (Verses 11-12)
Dumah
A descendent of Ishmael Grand son of Abraham that settled in Arabia (Ge 25:13-14; 1Ch 1:30).
In Joshua 15:52 it is listed as a mountain of Judah’s allotment
Seir a mountain (Deu 2:1) border of the possession given to Judah in Joshua 15:10 (area called Idumea?) -
Seir was also a region of land (Deu 2:8) Taken over by the children of Esau (Deu 2:12
Seir Seems to be associated with Edom and Esau, Isaac's eldest son. .
Seir was a man (Ge 36:20; De 2:12).
Note - Judah did not completely possess the land
This burden is associated with judgment from God - Eze 35:2; Isa 34:5-6; Eze 35:15, 36:5
Watchman What of the night (repeated!) -
The night is when those on watch must be the most alert. A thief usually comes at night, actually evil and darkness seem to go hand-in-hand.
Ps 104:20; Ro 13:12; 1Th 5:5; Job 36:20
You can not miss the association of night and sin, darkness and death.
The watchman is double warned to be vigilant and take notice of what might come in the night.

The watchman could be the one who Isaiah set on the tower earlier watching and seeing the fall of Babylon. It could be Isaiah - watching and giving warning or one in Dumah where the burden is headed

Note these verses - 1Th 5:2 & 2Pe 3:10
Could Isaiah be seeing the judgment of Dumah during “The Day of The Lord“.

The third section is The burden upon Arabia (verses 13 - 7)
Arabia brought spices, gold and silver to Soloman. (1Ki 10:15; 2Ch 9:14)
Ac 2:11, Ga 1:17 - The truth was there
Verse 13 - The burden - Judgment
Verse 13- Dedanim was a land of merchants ( maybe part of Arabia) Eze 27:20 - that often traveled through Arabia - told to hide in forest of Arabia
Verse 14 & 15 -The people Tema brought water and prevented or went before They made water and food available to those who fled from the swords and bow of the grievous war.
Verse 16 - This was going to come to pass one year (exact time). A bond servant knows the exact time his time of service ends. Kedar (A son of Ishmael, Ge 25:13) a important region of Arabia an example of Arabia’s glory - it’s all coming to an end.
Verse 17 - know this will come to pass, The God of Israel has spoken - He knows the exact numbers of this grievous battle.
Remember history is a picture of the further.
Grievous -
Jer 23:19:
grievousness of war - “That Day” - “The Day Of The Lord” ?
