Chapter 22 Part 1 - The burden
of the Valley of Vision
The burden of the valley of vision. - Jerusalem was the place of
the kinds the prophets came to the city to speak to the kings -
delivered visions from God to the kings the valley could be the out
lying area around Jerusalem.
Housetops were gathering places and the family would go to the house
tops to see what was going on in the city, meeting place for
business, gathering places, used to inform of happenings (Mt 10:27),
and a place of devotion (Ac 10:9), and a place to watch for trouble.
God intended the housetops be used this way. In De 22:8 God gave
instruction to have stone railing around the roof so no one would
fall off and be killed.
Here in verse one there seems to be a general alarm that called all
to there posts to watch for trouble. Something was about to happen.
Everyone has went to housetops.
Why - The state of God’s city Verse 2 & 3- It has become a noisy,
riotous, city of parting
Isaiah saw a time in Jerusalem’s future when Jerusalem would turn
from The LORD and become city filled with drunkenness &
celebrations.
Many will be found dead but not from a battle: sickness, famine, ect
(Lamentations 4:19; )
The rulers have fled the city and captured by
Verse 4 - Isaiah don’t look at me while I weep. The LORD could not
look upon His city without weeping so bitter that there was no way
to comfort Him - because of the state of His people. (Jer 4:19, 9:1;
Mt 23:37
Verse 5 - a day of trouble,
Isaiah 36 - Assyria will come against Jerusalem [2Kings 18 -19
(19:3)] -(Isa 37:3) - Assyria did not take the city or is any great
famine recorded. - Many commentaries believe verses 1-14 are about
this
Babylon will take Jerusalem (Dan 1) - Could be the main focus of
this chapter (Verses 1-14)
Zephaniah 1:14-15 - The great of the LORD - Jer 30:7; Am 5:18
{Other verses Ezekiel 7:7; Jer 51:2; Hab 3:17; Psalms 29:1, 50:15)
Verses 6 & 7 The Elamites were taken by Assyria, than by Babylon and
they served in both nations armies.
When both Assyria & Babylon would have filled the “Valley of Vision”
with chariots and armies.
Verses 8-11 The enemy will see the covering of Judah and the
breeches of God’s holy city that that would alloy the enemy to
enter. This was all because Judah did not remain true to their Maker
they chose to be protected by what the forest would provide (In
verse 2 the rulers fled but were captured).
Verse 12 - That Day - God will bring weeping, shame and remorse
Verse 13- could this go with verse 2 - parting because they expect
to die (From the siege of Assyria and/or Babylon) with death was all
around them.
Verse 14 - Jerusalem would have to become completely desolate before
it could be healed. Judah and all of Israel had to die to self
before The LORD could purge them (Col 2:13)
For the next lesson Read Isaiah 22:1-14 than 2Kings 18-19 with
Isaiah 36&37 and 2Kings 24 & 25 - Also Ezekiel 24:
Is Isaiah mainly about the siege by Assyria or Babylon? And the
death of Jerusalem.
