Chapter 3 - Refuse Light And Judgment Will Come

Chapter  ends with a call to cease depending upon mere men - why is man worthy to be depended upon more than The LORD.

The LORD will bring judgment upon Judah and Jerusalem for not returning to the light.

Verses 1-8 Give a solemn view of God's chastening and what will come upon Judah and Jerusalem. In "That Day"

Verse 1: The LORD will remove the bread, water and staff He made abundant in Jerusalem

Staff - Psalm 23:4 - comfort from the LORD

Bread - John 6:33-35, Luke 4:4 - Bread is a picture nourishment - The Word

Water - That which caries the nourishment throughout the body - Spirit

The Lord is going to remove the comfort in being able to depend on the abundant food and water The LORD made available in His City but also the comfort and the ability the Jews had in the presence of His Word and Spirit.

Verses 2-7 - The comfort of having the strong leadership of mighty men, judges, prophets, prudent men and ancient men, leaders, great speakers and counsellors is going to be removed as Babylon takes them captive and only the very young and inexperienced will be left to rule. The youth will have no respect for their elders. Honor will have no place among  these inexperienced rulers. They will choose their rulers based upon the cloths they have to wear and if they have any food in their houses..

The Jews refused the counsel of their ancient and the leadership throughout their history. They refused the comfort available through the light offered by the ancient, prophets and strong leaders. [You don't know what you got until it's gone]

Verse 8 - All the LORD had given them to depend upon and be comforted with will be removed because of the way the spoke about the LORD and denied the glory due His name.

Verses 9-16 Speak of the condition of Israel in several time of their history and future woefully sinful and

totally against the ways of The LORD -

Verses 16-17 their ways are going to bring judgment from the LORd upon themWhich is going to bring judgment

Verses 18-26- "That Day" of judgment is described

During the Babylonian captivity everything and everyone of value is taken away out of Jerusalem and many are killed by the sword.

That Day when Babylon enters Jerusalem Dan 1:1 (More on this in Chapter 22) Also read Deuteronomy 28 (especially beginning vere15 & 50-55) I believe this is a prophesy of the 70 year captivity in Babylon and what those who are left in Jerusalem resort to for survival.

What about the condition of the Jews

During the 400 years between Malachi and Matthew The Roman conquest

During World War  II Germany's treatment of the Jews

This described the treatment of the Jews until they found liberty and prosperity in America

"That Day" after the rapture of the Church when the 7 year tribulation period begins

That Day during the tribulation period. Revelation 6:1 [Could the same thing (Deuteronomy 28:15 )be going on in Jerusalem during the Tribulation period among those who remain in Jerusalem?]

Note: The Lord was always in control of everything that has come upon His people. Nothing was done to the Jews that The LORD did not allow. All their hardships were because of their iniquity brought about because they chose not to believe The LORD and  for the purpose of their seeing His glory and returning to the light. Sadly the Jews still have not returned but there will be That Day when the see Him and Him, the Holy One Of Israel.

This will be made clear as the study of Isaiah continues.
