Chapters 31, 31 & 32 Part 1 - The Children Should have Known Better

It seems to me that the Jews always had a barrier in front of them that they believed to be impossible to go through. (The Red Sea Barrier, The No Water Barrier, Moses hasn’t Come Down From The Mountain Barrier, The Giants In The Land Barrier, With Ahaz it was The Enemies have surrounded Jerusalem)

Isaiah 1:1 - Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin:

Who Are The Children

Isaiah 1:2 - Those The LORD brought up - Amos 3:1 & 9:7; Psalm 105:6; 1Chronicles 16:13

They are Abraham's seed, the children of Jacob who The LORD had chosen {His chosen ones} and brought up out of the land of Egypt.

Their rebellion

1) Forsaking the counsel of God for that of man - Deuteronomy 29:19  - They had placed their thought above the counsel of God

1Kings 3:14 And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days. [Isaiah 55:8-9]
1Kings 11:33 Because that they have forsaken me, and have worshipped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in mine eyes, and to keep my statutes and my judgments, as did David his father. [Ge 6:5; 8:21]

2) Reject the covering of God's Spirit [holiness] for the covering of their ways [sinfulness]

This could be talking about the protection God offered His children - To fight their fights, to drive away their enemies; but Isaiah remember Isaiah 28:15 & 29:15.  Could it be that God offered to cover His children with His Holy Spirit they would have believed and obeyed His counsels, thus looking at them through His Holiness and seeing them as a holy people? The Holy Spirit did not live within them but would have been on the outside shielding them from the righteous eyes of God so He would not look upon their sin. (Habakkuk 1:13) Judah chose to ad sin upon sin as their covering for God's righteous eyes. {If God cannot look upon sin, we can sin and sin and sin some more so God will not be able to look upon us and all he will see is sin so he will not see anyone to bring judgment upon so His death will not come to them.  Isa 29:15

The example of their rebellion

Isaiah 30:2 That walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt!

Isaiah 31:1 ¶ Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!

They chose to trust in Egypt and rely upon the Pharaoh as their protector - Egypt as their covering?

The Children should have known better

Exodus 12:26-27 - The fathers were to continually teach his children that God is able! They hears the story of how The LORD brought them up from Egypt and went before them in the wilderness. He left memorials for the children to see and ask about (Joshua 4). He sent judges, prophets to teach them. They had no excuse.  Deuteronomy 6:7 (6;1-25) (Numbers 15:37-40)

Why did they not learn

Their disbelief brought about disobedience which brought the curse - Deuteronomy 29:4,19;

 Isaiah 24:6,  43:28, 34:5
