Chapter 7 - Part 1 - Ahaz' s Dilemma

Ahaz the son of Jotham 2Ki 16, 2Chron 28
He walked in the way of the kings of Israel (the northern kingdom)
He made his son to pass through the fire
He made also molten images for Baalim.
He Sacrificed in the high places his father did not tear down
He made a pact with Assyria, and actually places Israel under the king of Assyria for protection. He stayed upon God’s enemies instead of The Holy One Of Israel.
He reigned 16 years
The sins of the father is visited upon the son and can cause the son to pull himself in deeper and deeper.

Isaiah 7:1 And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.
The northern kingdom of Israel (Ephraim in particular) in alliance with Syria
The reason for attacking Jerusalem - (7:6) - to set a king over Jerusalem from the northern kingdom - to conquer and control Judah, Benjamin and Jerusalem (Levites).

Isaiah 7:3 Then said the LORD unto Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou, and Shearjashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field
God’s command to Isaiah - Go to meet Ahaz
Take his son Shearjashub - [means: a remnant shall return (6:13)]
Location of meeting - Conduit (where water would come in or out) of the upper pool (one of the two pools that supplied water to Jerusalem) {Ahaz could have been with his army guarding this water supply}
This conduit went under the highway to the fuller’s field
Fuller - cleanser of cloth - would need running water, soap, sunlight - they would trample or stamp the cloth with their feet in a vat or hang them and beat them with rods to loosen the dirt

A closer look at this meeting place
Isaiah was to meet Ahaz on the path where garments were cleaned by running water, soap, sunlight and beating or agitation with the feet,
Malachi 3:1-3 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts. But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness. (John 2:15 How did Jesus purge the temple)
Mark 9:2-3 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.
Daniel 7:9 I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.

Ahaz’s Need
Ps 51:7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
His need was to humble himself and walk the path that leads to cleansing - To The Holy One Of Israel

Ahaz at the crossroads
God sent His word by Isaiah (7:4) - Take heed (to My Words) - And say unto him, Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted - about the two kings (Israel and Syria) coming against Jerusalem - To God these were just mere kings only men not to be feared
Because the armies of Syria, Israel, and especially Ephraim that were coming to set a false king over Judah in Jerusalem are not going to prevail - so fear not (7:6-7) [Ephraim as a title for the northern kingdom of Israel - it could be that this tribe was at the forefront of the decision to attack God’s Holy City - God was going to defend His Holy City for His remnant’s (6:13) sake
In fact in 65 years Israel will not be a people
(7:9) - If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established. Ahaz had a choice to believe God‘s prophet and stay upon The Holy One Of Israel (the true fuller) and he would be established or reject His Word and suffer judgment. Established - in the city and as a good and long ruling king.
Here the wonderful grace of God is seen Ahaz was offered the opportunity to choose to believe and stay upon the LORD and go to the fuller of the soul and be cleansed Ezekiel 18: 24 - 27
This is the same choice Israel had to make (2Ch 20:20) and the same choice every person must make when confronted with the Gospel today - believe God and be established or reject His Word and face judgment.

Ahaz's dilemma was not the enemies at the gate, it was it was the decision he was forced to make - believe The Lord or not - Not the enemies without - it was the enemy within.
Mt 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Heb 6:19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
Heb 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name
