Chapters 30, 31, 32 - Part 2 - The Vanity of Choosing Sin Over The Holy Spirit

Why could they not learn - Deuteronomy 29 (Especially verses 4,19) - Remember The Curse

Isaiah  24:6, 43:28

Going Down to Egypt: Isaiah 30:2, 31:1

God knew the hearts of His chosen - Exodus 13:17 Before they came to the Red Sea. The desire to choose bondage in Egypt was greater than their desire to stay upon the Holy One Of Israel, the One who was their Passover. God brought them to the Red Sea to show them the vanity of choosing man over Him.

Deuteronomy 17:14-17 (Moses speaking to the people) The LORD knew the people would choose a man to be their king instead of HIM.

The king God would choose was not to: multiply horses to himself as did the pharaoh of Egypt, multiply wives to himself as did the pharaoh of Egypt, multiply gold and silver to himself as did the pharaoh of Egypt

If the king did these things they would be reminded of Egypt and start thinking about going back and God said they are not to go back that way again. (Duet 17:16)

In verse Deut 17:15 - God was going to choose the king so he would be a Israelite and a stranger - Could it be He knew they would want to choose the Pharaoh Of Egypt to be their kind?

Note what did Solomon did as king of Israel - multiplied wives, chariots (horses) and gold & silver to himself -

God gave Solomon wealth - 2Chronicles 1:12 - (Solomon made gold & silver plenteous as stones 1:15)

What did he do with his God -given wealth - amassed an army of horsemen and chariots (1:14) Where did he get these horses and chariots - (1:16-17) first Egypt, than their other enemies. Where did he get his wives from his enemies (1Kings 3:1) - Could Solomon have been responsible for the people thinking about going to back Egypt? Did thee decisions of Solomon bring about good for Israel? No --the divided kingdom came out of his sin - Ecclesiastes 1:1-3 it only short term value, no eternal value in what Solomon amassed. It was all lost after he died - Now Isaiah has brought The LORD promise of judgment and death - 70 years of desolation.

Early example the vanity of going to Egypt 2Chronicles 10:2, 12:1-2, 9

The vanity of choosing sin as your cover instead of holiness - Isaiah 30:3- 7, 31: 1-3 - Even during captivity they wanted to rely upon Egypt - Ezekiel  17:12-17 (written during the captivity), it did no good just as God said.

In King and Chronicles you see this alliance with Egypt coming back to haunt Judah and Israel.

Even during the captivity they went to Egypt for help and more embarrassment followed.

Key Verse - Isaiah 31: 3 the real vanity of choosing Egypt over God's Spirit - The Egyptians including the pharaoh were only men, not spirit on temporal not eternal. The hope they had in Egypt was hope in vain.

Psalms 146: 3-4, Psalm 146:5 - The only true hope is that placed in the LORD - why Psalm 146:6-10

The children should of known better.

Chapters 30, 31, 32, Part 3 -  The conclusion of the matter- When sin will be seen as sin - Isaiah 32:15

Ecclesiastes 12: 13-14, Proverbs 1:20-33; Zechariah 12:9-10;
