Chapters 36 & 37 Part 1 - The Wisdom Of Hezekiah

The woe of Chapters 28-33
Woe #1 - Crown of pride
Woe #2 - City with no vision
Woe #3 - Seek to hide counsel from God
Woe #4 - Rebellious children - rejecting God's Spirit
Woe #5 - Woe to those who desire Egypt
Woe #6 - Woe to the treacherous spoiler

1Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

*When the apostle Paul recorded these words he remembered his own past. As Saul of Tarsus he was a Jew of Jews and he knew every jot and tittle of the recorded Word. As Paul the apostle he understood difference between knowing God's Word and believing God's Word. The difference is the influence of The Holy Spirit in one's life. (Woe # 4) Ahaz was an example of the man who rejects the influence of God's Spirit

Hezekiah and the Woes 2Kings 18:1-6: 2Chronicles 29:1-36; 2Chronicles 30

Woe #1 - Crown of pride - In 2Kings 18: 3 & 2Chronicles 29:2 He is identified with David as his father - 1Sameul 13:14  David is described as man after The LORD's own heart  - Hezekiah at once started setting God's city and house in order showing he too saught The LORD's heart and not his own.
Woe #2 - City with no vision -
in his first month he began bring proper worship back into Jerusalem and the temple 2Chronicles 29: 3-5, 35.He also removed the high places and broke broke the idols. In 2Kings 30 Hezekiah invited the northern kingdom to come and worship and celebrate the Passover - some did. He began returning the vision of obeying God's Law back to all Israel. Remember the Passover was also so the fathers would have occasion to teach their children about the LORD bringing Israel out of Egypt - vision to the childrem.
Woe #3 - Seek to hide counsel from God
- 2Chronicles 29: 10-11 - made a covenant with the LORD instead of hiding his counsels he openly proclaimed them before The LORD.
Woe #4 - Rebellious children
- rejecting God's Spirit by inviting all Israel to come and worship Hezekiah was God's rebellious children he wanted the covering of the spirit upon Judah and all Israel.

See why  it is said of Hezekiah (by God's spirit) in 2Kings 18:5 He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.

Because Hezekiah dealt with the first four suddenly (2Chronicles 29:36)  woes 5 & 6 fell right in place.

Hezekiah's wisdom did not begin when the enemy was knocking at the gate, it began before he became king knowing that his father (Ahaz) could not be followed, but he must follow the Word of The LORD

Woe #5 - Woe to those who desire Egypt -
When Sennacherib heads his army to Jerusalem Hezekiah knows who turn to 2Chronicles 32: 7-8  - The LORD our God will fight - If God be for us who can stand against us. - More wise counsel to the people.  See note # 1
Woe #6 - Woe to the treacherous spoiler -
When Sennacherib came to spoil Jerusalem Hezekiah proclaimed who the LORD was  knew  (Isaiah 37:16 [try to find a better one verse description of God]). He wanted God to save Jerusalem for HIS (The LORD) name's sake HIS glory (Isaiah 37:20). He was not going to ask The LORD to save Judah for their glory but for HIM and HIM alone. Hezekiah was not going to spoil (unduly take away) glory from the name of The LORD.

Hezekiah's Wisdom Precept upon precept Isaiah 28:9-10

*No other besides the LORD - worship only Him (Isaiah 37:16)

*Remove the and beak up the idols and you can't bow down to them

*When you get the first precept of God's law the rest fall in place

Hezekiah's Wisdom -What to do when there seems to be no way to escape defeat. Dealing with woes 4&5
He knew where to turn to seek advice and to stay
A) Isaiah 37:1 - He must first humble himself
B) Isaiah 37:1 & 14 - He knows where to go - The LORD's House
C) Isaiah 37:2 - He required of Isaiah, God's man, the one with the vision: God's word
D) Isaiah 37:15 - He knew what to do - Pray unto the LORD
E) Isaiah 37:16 - He knew how to begin to pray - He hallowed the Name of the LORD
F) Isaiah 37:20 - He knew why to pray - The Name of The LORD be Glorified
It seemed Hezekiah knew Matthew 6:9-13 long before Jesus taught His Apostles.

Note # 1 - The representatives of Hezekiah and Sennacherib met at the fullers field where dirty clothes are made white by being washed in running water. Could this have been Hezekiah's choice.
