The Twenty-one Woes Of Isaiah

Isa 3:9 ¶ The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.
Isa 3:11 Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.
Isa 5:8Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!
Isa 5:11 Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!
Isa 5:18 ¶ Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope:
Isa 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Isa 5:21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!
Isa 5:22 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:
Isa 6:5 ¶ Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.
Isa 10:1 ¶ Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;
Isa 17:12 ¶ Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!
Isa 18:1
¶ Woe to the land shadowing with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia:
Isa 24:16 ¶ From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.
Isa 28:1 ¶ Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!
Isa 29:1 ¶ Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelt! add ye year to year; let them kill sacrifices.
Isa 29:15 Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?
Isa 30:1 ¶ Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin:
Isa 31:1 ¶ Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!
Isa 33:1 ¶ Woe to thee that spoilest, and thou wast not spoiled; and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! when thou shalt cease to spoil, thou shalt be spoiled; and when thou shalt make an end to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee.
Isa 45:9 Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?
Isa 45:10 Woe unto him that saith unto his father, What begettest thou? or to the woman, What hast thou brought forth?

I believe when The LORD pronounced a woe upon or woe unto He was not offering a opportunity to repent. It is a pronouncement of the coming of unavoidable judgment..
Isaiah 22:14 And it was revealed in mine ears by the LORD of hosts, Surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you till ye die, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

Chapter three makes it clear The LORD knew as a nation Judah would not believe His prophets.
Read Isaiah 3:1-9 - To the nation of Judah their sin was no longer something they regretted or we were ashamed of, but had become something they were proud of and openly declared - their sin had become a banner of pride. In 3:9 The LORD declared woe unto the souls of those who are proud of their sin and want others to know that they intentionally reject the prophets of God and willfully break God’ Law. From that verse on The LORD would no more hear their false repentance.

We saw last week prophesy was not for those who believed not but for those who believe. There was always a remnant who believed and had a desire to obey God. -
King Hezekiah - went to the LORD and believed Jerusalem was saved
Manasseh, One of the most wicked of the kings of Judah , , remembered, repented and believed God and Jerusalem was saved.
Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah believed and they were highly favored by their capturers
These were the ones God sent His prophets to. They knew [Romans 8:28] believe God and all will be well.

The woes
In 19 of the 21 woes of Isaiah is woe unto … Who is pronouncing the woe? The LORD
How does the woe of Isaiah 6:5 & Isaiah 24:16 differ from the rest of the woes seen in Isaiah?
Isaiah. Isaiah pronounced it upon himself.

If a woe is the announcement of judgment for going to far and being beyond the ability of repent, why did Isaiah believe he was worthy of judgment and pronounced a woe upon himself in Isaiah 6:5 & 24:16?
Isaiah realized he did not deserve to live when he saw the glory of The LORD, let alone actually be called to serve Him. See chapter 6. The sin Isaiah confessed was the sin The LORD removed.
Would that been true if all of Judah had confessed their sins? Is that true today?

How do the woes of Isaiah 6:5 & 24:16 lead to God’s wrath being stilled? - They lead to repentance - when a mere man truly sees the LORD for who he is, he will see himself as the wicked man he is and will realize he must confess his wickedness and seek His grace.

Read Isaiah 45:1-13 - How are all the other woes (except Isaiah 6:5 & 24:16) related to the woes in Isaiah 45:9 & 10? - Israel's disobedience and disbelief caused them to be in conflict with The LORD

Realize this there is only one way for a woe pronounced by The LORD to be ended - the purging of sin through death - Who’s death? One must die to self and your sin through humbling yourself nd turning to Jesus Christ - The Holy One Of Israel.
