Isaiah Chapter 28 - Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim

Verse 1 - Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!

Pride - The inflation of self worth

Ephraim - The second son of Joseph - but received the greater blessing by Israel (Jacob). His name is used often as a name of the Northern Kingdom of Israel.   

Here The LORD pronounced that pride of the The kingdom of Israel has went to far and Israel will face judgment and there is no way they can appease the wrath of God headed their way

Drunkenness of Ephaim - The physical - Verse 7 makes it plain the northern kingdom had become filled with wine and come under it's control. The judgment and teaching of the rulers, judges and priests had become corrupt because of they to were drunkards. Their vision was erred, what they were no longer looking for a better future (Proverbs 29:18) .  Verse 8 show the extent of their drunkenness. Their vomit had polluted their tables. Drunkenness of Ephrain - The Spiritual - They had become so embedded with worship polluted by the rejection God's Law that they no longed had the vision of being "God's Chosen People". They offered weak and crippled animals upon the alter (Malachi 1:6-8) and the priest and prophets had led the way to spiritual drunkenness and the the people followed and and became spiritual drunkards. The priest and prophet were benefiting (Ezekiel 34:2) -

The drunkenness of the drunkards of Ephraim was really their pride - The said in their hearts their is no god greater than me, there is no god I need to fear (Psalm 36:1, 53:1). I am my own judge. God. we do not need or want you to be over us anymore.
